Copywriting
for Advertisements and Leaflets
If you are creating
advertisements or leaflets to sell your products or services or to invite
enquiries, you need to consider a variety of techniques to boost response.
Advertisements
The creation of an advertisement to appear in newspapers, magazines, Yellow
Pages etc needs to combine a number of copywriting techniques. Headlines,
the offer and the order
form are all important elements in the construction of
a response-generating advertisement.
In addition, the best ads will also include a host of customer benefits
- possibly in bullet-point format, and a number of testimonials, if space
allows.
Leaflets
Similar to advertisements, leaflets are constructed by incorporating a
number of elements: headlines, offer, order form – but in addition,
the extra space allowed by even a simple leaflet means you can incorporate
more graphic elements, such as photos, diagrams, and can include testimonials
– vital in supporting any product or service.
Important points to remember
When writing and constructing advertisements or leaflets, the flow of
the text and the position of the graphics and pictures is vital in ensuring
you guide your reader to the point where you want him to take action.
If you remember that we naturally expect to read from top left to bottom
right, then you need to allow your reader’s gaze to flow in that
general direction across and down the page, picking up all the important
information on the way. This ‘skim read’ is an important test
to ensure you are making the best use of the space available to you.
